Thomas and Stanley are the owner/innkeepers of the Knickerbocker Mansion property. Along with Bijou (our newest pet addition, another chocolate Standard Poodle), Faux Pas (chocolate Standard Poodle) and a small attentive staff, they greet and welcome their guests.
They purchased the property in 1998. It had been closed for almost three years and stripped of every stick of furniture and fixtures. Starting all over, Stan and Thomas have lovingly resorted, remodeled, refurnished and built new additions to this historic Big Bear Lake landmark. Built in 1920, it has been a Bed and Breakfast since the mid 80's when it was converted from a private home. Their objective was to not destroy but refurbish and add their mark to the long history. Many changes have resulted from their work, including bathrooms for all the bedrooms, a new front entrance and porch, a full commercial kitchen, laundry, private offices, a separate conference meeting room facility, maintenance garage and a private owners home.
Major work to the infrastructure of the property including handicap accessibility, plumbing, electrical, telephone, high speed internet access and cable TV provide all the modern conveniences. Special care has been taken not to destroy the charm and ambience of the original structures.
Chef Thomas, German born and raised, creates memorable breakfasts each morning. His formal German education was in the restaurant, food service and the hospitality service industry. Prior to moving to Big Bear Lake, he honed his skills for 9 years at Patina Restaurant in Los Angeles.
